Services
I treat adults 22 and over dealing with PTSD, caregiver stress, and grief issues in Virginia and Maryland.
I will do a free, 15-minute phone consultation about what is bringing you to therapy. If you decide to start, we will schedule the first session, which usually runs about one hour. We will meet once or twice weekly after that, depending on your needs and availability.
Occasionally, we may incorporate your partner or family members if it is helpful and you are willing.
Online and in-person sessions available. I am licensed to practice in Virginia and Maryland.
Fees:
Initial one-hour session: $200.
Each subsequent 60-minute session: $185.
Each subsequent 45-minute session: $160.
Add-on time per 30-minutes: $90.
Issues I treat:
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder if you have painful, unwanted memories, flashbacks, sleep difficulties, avoidance, distress or even feel disconnected from daily life, it may be related to a traumatic experience, either long-term or brief, such as
accident with car, train, airplane, cycle
combat stress from specific incidents and/or prolonged threat in combat situation
gun violence, gun accidents
physical or sexual assault, rape
illness or death of a loved one
distressing medical treatments
bullying in the workplace or at school
long-term or previous abuse, neglect from a caregiver or trusted person
from social system such as school or religious group
challenging family or partner dynamics
witnessing any of the above
and more
Overwhelm, transitions, relationship and caregiver stress for high-functioning women, with or without ADHD.
You are intelligent, creative, loving, and intellectually curious, yet you may have trouble with
feeling chronically overwhelmed
staying organized (it’s hard enough for yourself, and you have to do it for your whole family)
being on time to events, appointments, eg, “time blindness”
feelings “less than”, like you have to apologize for your flaws
shame for not being able to keep things together, given how smart know you are
sleep issues - difficulty falling or staying asleep
staying focused, or shifting/transitioning your focus to another activity
feeling anxious or sad because of any of these issues
Impostor Syndrome (“I’m just pretending to be this competent - no one knows how hard this is for me”)
And on top of this, you may be dealing with particular responsibities as a parent, partner, or adult child of aging or ill parents.
Grief and Stress related to Caregiving of Partner, Elderly Parent, with or without Dementia
As your parents or loved one ages, they may have needs or challenges that they never have had before. You may feel confused, overwhelmed, and alone in dealing with this. Your own family may be helpful, or not, to varying degrees. You need to speak with someone who understands this difficult situation and can process your grief, anxiety and frustration without judgment, and can give some resources, too.
You have lost, or are in the process of losing, a loved one to Dementia. This is hard. The person you love is changing, sometimes rapidly or not at all. It’s a different kind of grief, because you are losing them bit by bit. Not to mention, their care issues can be change as they do. You know you need to talk to someone who understands this and an help with resources, too.
